Writing Update #5 – First Draft: Complete

11/10 – Finished First Draft

The first draft is done.

I repeat.

THE FIRST DRAFT IS DONE…

…and it was anticlimactic experience.

Let me explain. I was excited, so happy to finally finish the first draft that I started in January of this year.

It’s been a long journey and I’m nowhere near the end. But the first draft is definitely one of the hardest hurdles. Now onto the second draft and edits.

I’ve gone through a character arc of both of my main characters. I made sure their goals/purpose in the novel were intertwined throughout the plot and not just brought up randomly.

I’m glad I did that. There were moment when I wouldn’t bring anything important up for chapters at a time then randomly, repeating the cycle.

11/18 – The Start of Editing

I started editing. The notes that I made with the character arc really helped.

I’m still trying not to get to stuck on each scene. It’s hard to read my book from the beginning. The characters had come a long way even while writing the first draft. I sort of felt that when I was writing but most definitely now that I’m reading it.

I’m just trying to trust the process. This is all just part of the journey and I’m going to have more hard days where I can’t see anything but the errors in my writing. I just need to push through that barriers.
