The Roommate by Rosie Danan Review | Phenomenal, Absolutely Phenomenal

The Roommate by Rosie Danan Book Review

There was a period of time on TikTok where The Roommate by Rosie Danan was all the rage. Looking back now, I didn’t hear anything negative about this book.

Goodreads Summary

House Rules:
Do your own dishes.
Knock before entering the bathroom.
Never look up your roommate online.

The Wheatons are infamous among the east coast elite for their lack of impulse control, except for their daughter Clara. She’s the consummate socialite: over-achieving, well-mannered, predictable. But every Wheaton has their weakness. When Clara’s childhood crush invites her to move cross-country, the offer is too much to resist. Unfortunately, it’s also too good to be true.

After a bait-and-switch, Clara finds herself sharing a lease with a charming stranger. Josh might be a bit too perceptive—not to mention handsome—for comfort, but there’s a good chance he and Clara could have survived sharing a summer sublet if she hadn’t looked him up on the Internet…

Once she learns how Josh has made a name for himself, Clara realizes living with him might make her the Wheaton’s most scandalous story yet. His professional prowess inspires her to take tackling the stigma against female desire into her own hands. They may not agree on much, but Josh and Clara both believe women deserve better sex. What they decide to do about it will change both of their lives, and if they’re lucky, they’ll help everyone else get lucky too.

Personal Review

Prior to reading The Roommate by Rosie Danaan, I hadn’t really heard much about it. Well, except for that one detail. That the male counterpart was a porn star. A beautiful fact indeed. I had high hopes going in so the pressure was on for me.

And…

The Roommate did not disappoint in the LEAST.

The book immediately got 5 stars from me from the beginning because of that one fact. After the first chapter, I couldn’t put it down, especially with the alternating POVs. The pacing was perfect. Josh, Claire, and Naomi were a beautiful blend of chaotic energy but with good plot lines.

I was a little conflicted going into the novel. I was curious how Rosie Danaan was going to have Josh falling in love with Claire while continuing to be a porn star. However, she did handle it perfectly.

This entire book was just *chefs kiss*.

There is a second book coming out soon and I am so pumped to read it. I’m going to buy Danaan’s next novel, dedicated to Naomi’s love life. There is a high chance that I will inhale the book in less than one day.
