Review of After Series by Anna Todd

In this post, I will be doing my series review of the After series by Anna Todd.

I just want to say first and foremost that this was a One Direction fanfiction on Wattpad. HOWEVER, I couldn’t tell when I read the published versions. 

It starts out with the typical good girl, Tessa Young, going off to college and there she meets Hardin Scott, the rude, mysterious guy. As the book goes on, the reader gets to see that Tessa is not just some wholesome girl, she also makes mistakes and trusts the wrong people. 

The love story of Tessa and Hardin spans four books. After is solely from Tessa’s perspective whereas After We Collided and on is from both of their perspectives. There is a fifth novel, Before but it’s just the first one but from Hardin’s perspective (it explained a lot of what happened in the first book and made me love his character more). Each book ends with a cliffhanger, but it’s fine because all the books are out and available online.

Review

This series also speaks to the lover of the classics within me because Anna Todd implements quotes from Pride & Prejudice and Wuthering Heights. You can definitely see concept similarities between those novels and hers along with others too. And after you read the first book, you can just head on over to Netflix and watch the movie. It’s not exactly like the book (when is it ever the same, honestly) but it’s still great; they even add a few scenes that aren’t in the book but don’t take away from the Hessa vibes.

If you enjoy intense love stories this is a great read. I read this book a little over a year ago and I distinctly remember staying up until 3 – 4 in the morning, reading on my phone because it was just that good. It’s a book that I didn’t know I needed until I had started reading it.
