Book Review of Neon Gods by Katee Robert

Neon Gods by Katee Robert

I don’t know how to feel about this book. Neon Gods was all over TikTok at one point. I recently went to Barnes and Noble, saw it, and gave in. The second book, Electric Idol, was next to it so I also bought it, naturally.

Let me start by saying that I am a Greek Mythology whore. I love it, I love books that use it or weave it into their plot. I loved how Neon Gods used Greek Mythology within its premise.

Persephone and Hades’ story is ambiguous in and of itself. The way Katee Robert manipulates the story, giving Persephone more power was well done and I enjoyed it. I didn’t really enjoy Hades’ character. He just felt a bit flat to me.

The *spice* was fantastic, absolutely amazing. The semi- dom/brat connection was another unique angle to this relationship but welcome nonetheless.

This is my opinion which, obviously, many will probably not agree with.

On to the more positives, I thought it was interesting how the gods weren’t immortal. This fact added a more complex and political layer to the world which gave me something more to think about.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Neon Gods by Katee Robert but I definitely wouldn’t turn someone away if they want to read this book.

3.5/5
