Laundry Essentials Every College Student Needs to Know

Whether you do your laundry once a week or once a month, you need to have the proper essentials to make doing laundry easier and less of a mess. Below is what I recommend for doing laundry.

Detergent Pods

Detergent Pods

Detergent pods are definitely a laundry essential. These save so much space in your dorm room. They are also less likely to be a mess when doing laundry. The only downside is that sometimes the plastic surrounding it won’t completely melt. This results in your clothes having a plastic stuck to it and sometimes ruining your clothing. Instead place the tide pod in the slot where you would typically pour the detergent. The tide pod will dispense the detergent for your clothes and if the plastic does not melt, it won’t be anywhere near your clothes.

Scent Booster

Downy Unstoppable Scent Booster

I use the Downy Unstoppable Scent Booster to keep my clothes smelling good until the next laundry cycle. They have different scents based on your preference and they are easy to use, just put them directly into the washing machine before any detergent or softener. I haven’t had any problems with it affecting my clothes so I highly recommend it.

Dryer Sheets

Snuggle Dryer Sheets

I don’t know how common this is but dryer sheets are amazing. They reduced the static from clothes, making them feel softer. This helps if you have longer hair so your hair doesn’t get the static.

Drying Rack

I mentioned drying racks as one of the college hacks students should know about. This, again, saved me money because I didn’t have to pay money for drying clothes. Obviously you should dry certain things (bed sheets, jeans, etc.), but this definitely minimizes the amount of loads you need to pay for.

No Whites

This is definitely a personal preference. If you wear a lot of white clothing then ignore this advice. I probably wear white once in a while so I felt it pointless to take any white clothes to school. This saved me a lot of money on Clorox and on having to pay $1.75 for a load of white clothes.
