Broken Playboy by Laura Lee | Happy Release Day!

3.75/5

Summary

They call me a player.
A joker.
The guy always down for a good time.
But if they knew the secrets I’ve been keeping, they’d call me something else entirely.

For the last two years, I’ve been buried in shame, numbing the pain with various vices. Drowning in self-hatred and concealing it with a smile.
I had a system in place, a surety that no one would learn the truth. Then Sydney Carrington came waltzing back into my life.

She’s the new headmaster’s daughter.
The most beautiful girl I’ve ever met.
The one person on Earth who can expose what I’ve worked so tirelessly to hide:

That I’m the fucking villain in this story.

Personal Review

I really enjoyed Broken Playboy. This is book is just in time for dark academia season.

We get another glimpse in the Windsor Academy characters and some additional ones which were great.

We first met Bentley Fitzgerald in the Windsor Academy trilogy that followed Kingston and Jazz. In my opinion, you don’t have to necessarily read the trilogy before but you get to know Bentley more in those books and paint a better picture of him so I do recommend.

He was the typical goofy, jokester but Laura Lee did a really good job showcasing that sometimes those who laugh the loudest are in the most pain (wow that sounds so cliche but bear with me).

I loved the development of Bentley and Sydney throughout the novel. Their progression seemed natural and it wasn’t like flipping to the next page and they were a happy couple the whole time; there was a constant three steps forward two steps back situation.

I felt there were two plots within Broken Playboy. We have the major plot line which is the main point and then there was a subplot that was interwoven quite well. It was interesting on its own and helped support the storyline. However, once the climax hit (haha) that subplot just disappeared and was not mentioned again. The book left me with questions that I felt could’ve been answered. There were also some moments of redundancy within conversations, but it was rare, maybe one or two times.

Overall, Broken Playboy was a gem a to read. I want to thank Laura Lee and Grey Promotions for the eARC.
