I Obsessed Over (Most Of) These Books in July 2021

black tablet computer behind books

July has been a busier month than expected. I got a job and a lot of my time was spent, surprisingly, working. I didn’t think I would be as tired as I am when I come home from work. Therefore, I didn’t read any of the books that I had said I was going to read and I think that’s common for a lot of book readers.

When I make a plan of what I’m going to read, I avoid those books the most. Does anyone else deal with this? From now on I’m just going to say what I have read and see where it goes from there.

Here are the 8 books I read last month. They all lean more towards the Romance/Smutty genre.

Fallen Heirs by Laura Lee

3.5/5 Stars

This is the last book in the Windsor Academy Trilogy. I have always enjoyed academy/high school stories. They just hit different, you know? The plot was semi-predictable at times and there were moments where I was fixing the grammar in my head. However, the characters were diverse so there was someone for everyone. I do wish there was a novella for Ainsley and Reed because they just seem so cute together. I loved the idea of the trilogy overall; there were different subplots and character arcs that interwove well so it never got boring.

The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori

5/5 Stars

I had seen this book in so many TikTok recommendations and I finally decided to give it a try. The author does not disappoint. As a reader, you can tell how much thought and editing went into this piece. The storyline was great. It had to brooding alpha male and the strong woman in the New York Mafia setting. I was so swept into the story with the author’s writing style, it was absolutely beautiful. I want to read the rest of the trilogy but I also just want more of Nico and Elena. Also, the spice was *chef’s kiss*.

Twisted Love by Ana Huang

4.5/5 Stars

I loved this book, the plot twists throughout the book actually caught me off guard. Again, brooding alpha male who is protective of the girl he loves (I love it). Alex is trying to avenge the death of his family that he witnessed when he was a child. I love good spice in any book, but this was a bit not my style and that’s the only reason why I took off a half star in my rating. Twisted Love is the first book in the Twisted Series. The second book, Twisted Games came out on July 29th so it’s next to read on my list once I finish the series I’m currently reading.

Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles by Cora Reilly

This is the series I’m currently reading. There are eight (8) books and I’m currently on book seven (7) but I’m going to quickly give my star review for each book.

Bound by Honor (5/5 Stars)

Bound by Duty (4.5/5 Stars)

Bound by Hatred (4.5/5 Stars)

Bound by Temptation (4.5/5 Stars)

Bound by Vengeance (4.5/5 Stars)

Bound by Love (4.5/5 Stars)

The variances of half stars or one full star was for certain plot points that I didn’t like. Bound by Honor was heavily recommended on TikTok. Right after I finished it, I downloaded the next one. I’ve read all these books in a little over a week. They have the best balance of spice, plot and character development. I’ll give a more in-depth review once I finish the next two books.
