Having been cooped up at home for the past several months, I have had the opportunity to watch a lot of shows. Some of these shows I haven’t finished but I will shortly XD.
13 Binge-Worthy Shows
Outlander (Netflix/Starz)
If you like historical fantasy, Outlander is for you. Also, who doesn’t love a passionate highlander who is played by Sam Hueghan ;). Him and his co-star, Catriona Balfe, give me all the feels. The love they portray on the screen is INSANE. Season 5 came out this past Spring, but they are preparing to film season 6 soon which is super exciting. I am currently watching the fifth season with my roommates so I can’t binge it at 1 in the morning. That’s probably good because I have other responsibilities that I need to get to.
Outer Banks (Netflix)
Outer Banks is a classic treasure hunt show. It’s a group of teenagers that go hunting for secret treasure (gold). John B, the main character, is leading the hunt because his father had gone missing months before looking for said treasure. The first season ends with a slight cliffhanger. Only the first season is out, but I do believe either they started filming or will soon begin to film season two.
Lucifer (Netflix)
The devil has been on vacation from his duties in the city of Los Angeles. He gets involved in a police case, working alongside Detective Chloe. From there on, he is the police department’s consultant. Problems begin to arise from Lucifer ignoring his responsibilities in Hell. Lucifer is fantastic and has 5 seasons out now. I will admit season 3 was a bit of a drag. There were a bunch of filler episodes in my opinion during that season. Season 4 and part 1 of season 5, however, quickly bring it back on track.
Supernatural (Netflix)
Two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester go hunting for everything that goes bump in the night. Every episode is a new creature or being that they hunt down. There is also an underlying story plot that is woven through the show. The relationships that are formed and broken throughout the seasons have brought me to tears. This show has 15 seasons, and they just finished wrapping the final episodes that they had halted to do the pandemic.
The Vampire Diaries (Netflix)
I cannot preach enough about The Vampire Diaries. It’s an incredible 8 seasons; the characters steal your heart from the first episode. The rollercoaster of emotions will occur to any viewer, I don’t care who you are—heart-wrenching deaths and overwhelming love will consume you. I’m pretty sure you can tell how much I love this show. There’s always something new every season, and you never know what’s going to happen.
The Originals (Netflix)
The original vampires have come to stake their claim back into a town they used to call home––New Orleans. As they are trying to accomplish that, there is also a baby coming that they have to keep secret from their enemies. There are werewolves, hybrids (vampire and werewolf), and a child that is a rare breed––witch, vampire, and werewolf. The Originals is a branch of The Vampire Diaries franchise. It was an automatic hit, and air when The Vampire Diaries was about halfway through. You don’t have to watch these two shows simultaneously, they are their own. Yet, you will see some characters come over for an episode or two, which is excellent.
Reign (Netflix)
This is also another historical fantasy. Reign is about Mary, Queen of Scots, and her life once she arrives at the French court. It also adds a bit of fantasy with witchcraft and seers in the beginning. The entire show is out on Netflix, so it’s right there at your fingertips. I’m only in season two, but I hope to finish it soon.
The Crown (Netflix)
The Crown is all about the royal family; starting from Queen Elizabeth and her coronation. It takes the audience through the experiences and problems the royal family encounters that ordinary civilians may not be aware of. I personally didn’t know anything really about the royal family. There were historical events that they had to deal with in public and private that I was not aware of because I wasn’t born in that time. It was quite eye-opening for me. The first three seasons are on Netflix. The fourth season comes in November so be sure to watch and catch up before its release.
The Witcher (Netflix)
A monster hunter, played by Henry Cavill, is trying to find his place among humanity. He comes to find out humans are sometimes worse than the beasts he is paid to hunt and kill. The Witcher has multiple storylines throughout the first season, and they finally come together in the final episodes. I have to admit, I was only interested in The Witcher because Henry Cavill was starring in it. The first episode might be confusing and overwhelming. Still, the pace picks up on episode two and then you’ll be scrambling to finish the season altogether. Only season 1 is out, but I believe they are in preparation for filming season two.
Charmed (Netflix)
I’m talking about the original with Alyssa Milano (Phoebe) and Holly Marie Combs (Piper). Charmed follows 3 sisters who have sort of been estranged from one another. A family death brings them together, and they become the charmed ones. This incredible show spans over 9 seasons, so that should occupy your time for quite a while.
Discovery of Witches (Sundance)
Diana Bishop has known about witches, vampires, and daemons her whole life. However, she chose to ignore her history and pursue a life in alchemy. The show begins at Oxford University where Diana is a visiting professor. There she meets Matthew Clairmonte, a vampire. A bond is soon forged between them, and they risk everything to be with each other. Only season 1 is out right now on sundance. My roommate and I got the free trial for a week, and we binged the show in 3 days. The first season is only 10 episodes, but each one is jam-packed and leaves you wanting to press forward for the next episode. I have rewatched season 1, and it only gets better. I highly recommend A Discovery of Witches to anyone who loves folklore and fantasy.
Gilmore Girls (Netflix)
Gilmore Girls is a cute show about a single mother and 16-year-old daughter. The show encapsulates their everyday lives, the problems with a coming-of-age daughter and a single mom trying to find her life again. The entire series, 7 seasons, is on Netflix, a so you would also be watching this for a while. But this show is excellent as a background to any mindless activities you could be doing.
New Girl (Netflix)
New Girl is absolutely hilarious. It’s about four guys sharing an apartment, and a girl named Jess is looking for a place to live. The show consists of their shenanigans––love, drama, heartbreak. New Girl is an easy watch with their 20-minute episodes. The first 6 seasons are great but the 7 one I never watched because the first episode felt rushed and I didn’t want to finish the show on a sour note.
